Scattered along the main road, Glenfinnan is situated at the head of Loch Shiel. Glenfinnan attracts many visitors from around the world to experience the stunning scenery but also the special atmosphere.
There is the famous Glenfinnan viaduct which carries the railway to Glenfinnan Station across a 1,000 ft span, 100 ft above the ground. The Jacobite steam train runs from here to Fort William and Mallaig. It is also well-recognised in the filming of the Harry Potter books, with the Hogwarts Express calling at Glenfinnan.
Surrounded by towering mountains and located on the shores of picturesque Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan Monument is a moving tribute to those who died fighting for the Jacobite cause, framed by dramatic Highland scenery. This was the location of the second Jacobite Rising in 1745.
There is just something very special about this place. It is Highland gem and a tranquil spot from which to imagine the day when one of the most important events in Scottish history occurred.
There is a Visitor Centre too, pop in for more information.
